Sunset Photo

I blogged about the importance of picking just the right time to photograph your house’s interior a while ago. This image, snapped shortly after sunset from the kitchen, proves my point. Notice how you can see inside and outside the house in the same shot? That’s because the level of illumination is about the same indoors and outdoors.

Here’s a shot from the same angle in broad daylight. Notice how you can’t see anything out the window? It’s still a good photograph, but our ocean view isn’t visible. Taking photos at dusk requires some planning, a tripod, and quick work (the view above disappeared about five minutes later), but the results are worth it.

Welcome to the Design Lounge

Chuck’s new C W Quinn Home showroom is open for business and the finishing touches are nearly done. With 4300 square feet, there’s a lot of space to fill. Here’s a fun detail: the design lounge by the front entrance. People can sit comfortably with a coffee while looking at samples and browsing through design inspiration books.

DSC_0087Did you notice the Julius Shulman book on the coffee table? Shulman (1910-2009) was one of the leading mid-century modern domestic architectural photographers. His alluring images, especially of houses in southern California, broadcast the new style to an international audience. His pictures still look fresh and inspiring today.

It’s amazing to see what the space used to look like just a few months ago. A dark, unused corner is now a cheerful, comfortable lounging nook.
