Another Mid-Century Kitchen

Now that our kitchen is done, Chuck has had more time to work on other people’s kitchens. Look at this one! It’s in a 1960s-era house in San Luis Obispo, built a few years after ours. I love all of the white cabinets and white quartz countertops. He updated the house’s existing galley kitchen with modern appliances and storage but kept the mid-century flair.

Our Kitchen, In Boxes

We are so close to being done. We better be, since our lease expires in 16 days! The kitchen cabinets arrived last week, and they’re sitting in boxes in our garage, ready to go soon. The cabinets are by Bertch, a manufacturer in Iowa that makes all of its product in the US, uses sustainably harvested wood and employs environmentally responsible fabrication methods. Chuck is an authorized dealer for Bertch through his C W Quinn Home showroom.

DSC_0027He uses Bertch cabinets for many of his clients, including the new Marsh Street Commons luxury condo development in downtown San Luis Obispo. Here’s a rendering of the Marsh Street project. Our house interior will be in a similar modern style, with white countertops. Ours is a little different because we’re using a mixture of white upper and dark lower cabinets.

We may even begin installing this week. While you’re waiting to see the finished product, here are Chuck’s renderings of our kitchen and the floor plans.

The living room is the white space above the sink. There’s a microwave built into the island.

This kitchen is much larger and has far more storage space than the old one.

Color Scheme Preview

And now for a preview of our color scheme. Our views are of ocean, hills, and sky so we’re going with watery cool blues and grays in the tiles, paint color, wallpaper and countertops. The wood tones in the original hardwood floors and new cabinets, along with some accent wallpaper will warm it up. We’re getting the cabinets and countertops from Chuck’s C W Quinn Home showroom in San Luis Obispo, of course. It’s very convenient to be married to a kitchen and bath designer for a project of this scope.
